Dear friend,
Danny Tan will be undergoing his last chemotherapy at Singapore
General Hospital from March 24~26, approximately a month after the
previous one, in the same hospital. His specialists have scheduled his
bone marrow transplant after the chemotherapy, which will be around
end of March/ beginning of April. According to Danny's girl friend,
Joey, each of the chemotherapies done in Singapore costs S$50,000
(approximately US$25,000), and the transplant will cost S$300,000
(approximately US$150,000). So far his medical bills in Edmond Medical
Center, Oklahoma, United States, have not been cleared. Tan family has
been searching monetary support from several charitable organizations
in Malaysia and managed to raise around RM300,000 (approximately
US$75,000), yet all the money raised were soon transacted to Singapore
for medical bills.
To date, the Malaysian Students Association at the University of
Central Oklahoma (UCO) has raised almost US$10,000 during the last
three months. This includes checks from Malaysian students/Malaysian
Students Association from all over the United States, auction during
Fall Graduation Dinner, donation boxes at the Central Cafetaria and
International Office, Malaysian Student Department Chicago, and
Malaysian Embassy at Washington D.C. More money will be added to
Danny's medical fund from Oklahoma University's Malaysian Nite, UCO's
Indian Students Association's Movie Night, and UCO MSA's Save a Life
Charity Night auctions.
Due to our incapability to obtain receipt books, we apologize that
receipts will not be mailed to donors, but the complete name list of
contributors will be posted by March 31, 2003 on the web site http://helpdannytan.tripod.com.
Thank you for your support.
Yours,
Yin Hwee Chua
President
